It’s opening day in my Cancer journey! Okay, not quite Cubs opening day, but much more relevant for me currently. So I feel like going into “Day 1” that I am a bit of a cancer vet. Having been through an Integrative journey before I go into this with much less apprehension and worry (I leave that up to Jen…). That being said, starting off this morning at the hospital (still undefeated as my least favorite place) getting my PICC line in was a big first step mentally to getting ready for all of this. I had a pretty gnarly experience getting the PICC line in the last time by the “it’s my first day” nurse and it tends to stick with you, right? It turns out that a professional can make that experience much better as it went off without a hitch. Next stop, the Doctor’s office. We got to start by talking to the doctor and going over things again and then it was time to get started. Today I received a cocktail of Immunity meds via IV that I am going to share with you all in detail soon. Frankly, I need to get my info correct on it before I share so stay tuned.
That was it for today, which seems pretty mild while I am writing it but I assure you, it was much more involved. Tomorrow is the day I will start the chemo drugs. Big Day. I want to make sure everyone understands what that means, as I was not really sure myself as that was not a big part of my previous treatment. The chemo I am receiving on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the next 3 weeks are the ones that ‘scored’ the highest from the Greek test results. These are the 2 that had the best results against my particular cancer in my blood. I will be getting a 10% dose of each, which is why it is a low-dose chemo protocol. This is administered in a way that “fools” the cancer cells in to thinking that it is sugar (which is cancers’ favorite snack) , which in turn kills the cancer cells from within after they go “Pac-Man” in my bloodstream. Serious espionage going on. I will share more details on this as well, and also any side effects that I may experience as we go along.
Alright-that is the short version–I will get more detailed and specific as we go, but that’s just day 1. I anticipate tomorrow will hold some challenges with the beginning of chemo, but I am positive and ready. As always I appreciate the prayers and thoughts from everyone and I’ll see you tomorrow (which is a blessing of it’s own!)
Talk soon!
