Update

June 18, 2022

Hey everyone!

I wanted to jump in here and give you all an update myself since I wasn’t really in a place to do so before.  First and foremost I want to personally thank each and every one of you.  I truly would not have been able to get to where I am today (more on that in a minute) without all the prayers and support I have received from everyone.  It has been a roller coaster 6+ months to say the least, and I am grateful to be able to to update you guys and let you know how I am doing on my own. I have to give all the glory to the Lord who has carried me (and my family) through each day of this journey. He has covered me and kept me going when I know without HIM, all hope would have been lost. I don’t know how anyone can go through this kind of trial without Jesus in their corner… to me, that is impossible.

The last update was in late March and that was when I was really in the thick of all of this.  I was just finishing my Boot Camp at the Integrative Medical Center (alternative medicine) and was pretty beat up.  I had done some low dose chemo as part of the protocol there among many other treatments, and I had some pretty harsh reactions. I also had had a couple of hospital visits in that time too and those were challenging as well. One of the good things that came  out of those visits though was getting to see the CT scans and monitoring my progress.  I (when I say I, I really mean us, as my wife has been amazing this whole time and is endlessly researching and monitoring my health and daily regimen) got the news of the second tumor on February 12th, which was measuring at 8.7cm—another monster.  It grew from 1.5cm to 8.7cm in a month!! Scary fast. This was also when one of the oncologists at the practice that is treating me with the immunotherapy gave me a year to 18 months to live and as he put his hand on my arm let me know that “ultimately the cancer is going to win.” That will certainly take the wind out of your sails……When I got the next CT scan a month later in the middle of my boot camp, the tumor had shrunk to 4.9cm! So awesome!!

Immediately following the tumor revelation on Feb. 12th, we decided to change my diet drastically. Our terrible everyday diets feed cancer big time (and I am not talking McDonalds on the daily, I mean what normal “healthy” eaters eat is a buffet for cancer to thrive on!), and knowing now what we didn’t know then it all seems so obvious.

Jen did a lot of reading and studying, and my integrative doc Dr. Bob opened our eyes to this as well. My oncologist as well as all the doctors I saw through my hospital stays all essentially laughed at us for thinking diet or alternatives treatments could do anything to help me fight cancer. It certainly hasn’t been easy to have such a strict diet, but it beats the alternative, right?

I got a call last week from the surgeon who removed my football sized tumor because he wants to publish my case because it’s so “strange”…… Well, we genuinely believe it wouldn’t be so “strange” if we had listened to the Western Medicine doctors who were none to pleased that we were going to see Dr. Bob and that we were trying other things like changing my diet, etc. I of course gave my permission, but they will be including ALL the treatments I have received, not just the immunotherapy from the oncology office.

So I continued on with a combination of diet, integrative therapies and immunotherapy (including to this day) and learned along the way what my body needs and how to adjust (still a work in progress) I have also had two follow up 3 day sessions with Dr. Bob since completing the boot camp with one more to go so the work continues. The plan is to space out the followup treatments more and more as we continue this path – but will be keeping up on the home regimen long term. This includes a LOT of supplements and two shots to the abdomen twice a week that my “nurse” wife administers.

I had a PET scan in late May and that was what we were all basing progress on. It came back with even more shrinkage!  And the even better news was that it showed that there is no activity in the tumor (and no other areas to be concerned about either)! Simple terms means it is dead, which is what we were hoping for. For the first time, I am really enjoying be labeled “UNREMARKABLE”. The PET scan measured the tumor at 4.5cm, but with a dead tumor there is scarring, etc. so a true measurement is difficult. Mostly, it’s DEAD. We couldn’t have been more excited! All of the hard work from (Jen) and the pain for (me) is showing that it is worth everything we are doing.  Hard to pinpoint exactly what is responsible for the turnaround, but I like to think it is a combination of all of the things we have been doing— a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears….but mostly, it’s a miracle. Jesus is the Ultimate Healer. The journey continues as the wolves are always at the door, but now I’m ready.

Going forward, I will be better at keeping you all up to update, but no news is good news nowadays. I will continue to do exactly what I have been doing and continue learning along the way so I can share with others what I have found out on this journey. I have no pain, exercise daily, and continue to learn things about eating a healthy diet everyday so things are going awesomely.

I would again like to thank all of you for your support, and want to shout out to my wife who has been the most amazing and ridiculously  brave and strong woman anyone could ask for! I am truly blessed in every aspect of my life and am thankful I am here to update everyone today.

God Bless

PS – The picture included here is of my brothers and I when they came out to spend a couple of days with me – was such a blessing to get time with them – thanks Joe and Mike!
